What is a Blind Basket?

A blind basket is a portafilter basket with no holes in the bottom. Instead of making coffee, it's used to backflush your espresso machine to clean the group head and three-way solenoid valve.

Simply add the blind basket to your portafilter, follow your machine manufacturer's cleaning instructions, and run a backflush cycle using water or an espresso machine cleaning powder.

Home Coffee Lab Tip

Only backflush machines that are designed for it, and avoid using cleaning powder more often than recommended by the manufacturer. Regular water backflushing is usually sufficient between deeper cleans.
